Master: 1942 John Maul.
On a voyage from Port Said for Capetown-Paramaribo & New York in ballast with a crew of 54 all told Ben Lomond was torpedoed by German submarine (U-172 Carl Emmermann) & sank off the coast of Brazil in 00.30N/38.45W on 23 November 1942. The only survivor was rescued close to death after 133 days in a lifeboat. He had lived on provisions that were stored in the lifeboat & fish & seagulls when he could catch them. 53 lives lost.
