Northern Daily Mail 20 January 1887:
‘Lloyds’ agent at Lisbon telegraphs today as follows: A telegram received from Peniche states; Brentford, British steamer, on a voyage from Newport for Malta, has been totally wrecked. All on board were lost excepting one. The Brentford was a steel steamer of 2,143 gross tons built at West Hartlepool in 1885 & owned by Messrs Watts, Ward & Co, London.’
