Brentford - a general history

 Northern Daily Mail 20 January 1887:

‘Lloyds’ agent at Lisbon telegraphs today as follows: A telegram received from Peniche states; Brentford, British steamer, on a voyage from Newport for Malta, has been totally wrecked. All on board were lost excepting one. The Brentford was a steel steamer of 2,143 gross tons built at West Hartlepool in 1885 & owned by Messrs Watts, Ward & Co, London.’

Lives lost January 1887: Bruce, Henry, 1st mate, 30, Londonderry; Dalrymple, Henry North, 29 (son of Rear Admiral James M Bruce); Kent, Pat, able seaman, 23, Waterford; Kidney, Denis, able seaman, 30, Kinsale.
