Fate

On a voyage from Barry for Rouen with a cargo of 2900 tons of coal & a total crew of 25 the Danish steamship L.H. Carl was torpedoed by German submarine UB-40 (Hans Howaldt) & sank 14 miles off Portland Bill in 50.26N/2.48W on 20 July 1917. Master T. Davies.

Two lives were lost: Barsaunian, fireman, b. USA; Kumon, S, donkeyman, Hiroshome, Japan.
