Fate

The West Hartlepool-registered steamship Sandsend was torpedoed and sunk by UC-48 (Kurt Ramien), 6 miles off Mine Head, Ireland, on September 16th, 1917. The ship was on a voyage from Barry to Queenstown with coal and general cargo. Master J.G. Busby.

Three crewmen were lost: Alfred Baxter, b. London, resided Bermondsey; Lloyd J. Evans, b. Cardiganshire; Percy Rainbow, Percy, b. Hackney, London.
