Fate

The West Hartlepool-built Norwegian steamship Skaraas was torpedoed and sunk by the German submarine UB-74, 1 mile off Black Head, Falmouth, on 23rd May, 1918. The ship was on a voyage from Barry to Fecamp with a cargo of coal.

Nineteen crew were lost including two from the Hartlepools, Fred Halbert and Ralph Richardson.
