Fate

On a voyage from Newport to Marseilles with a cargo of coal and a crew of 25 Calliope ran aground at Peniche, Portugal on November 1st, 1900. All the crew were saved, but a report on the 5th by the Master, Capt. J.B. Kent, stated the seas were breaking over her fore and aft and that she was a wreck.

The Calliope was launched by Miss. M. Cornforth on August 12th, 1889, for Arthur Gladstone and John Cornforth.
