On a voyage from Rio de Janeiro for Freetown, Sierra Leone Granicos was torpedoed (Italian Giuseppe Finzi Mario Rossetto) & sank 430 miles SW of Monrovia, Liberia on 28 March 1943. One survivor was captured & taken aboard the submarine & another was picked up by the motorship Leighton. 30 were lives lost.
