A Russian ship at the coal staithes in the Old Harbour. It is possibly the GRIBOJEDOV (1,816grt/1937). 

Three small children wave to the crew of the inshore minesweeper M 2009 H.M.S. CHAILEY, as she sails into the Old Harbour. The minesweeper was escorting another unidentified vessel in for lay-up.

The 1918-built, fishing boat JEAN HORSLEY (HL 51), beached on the Middleton side of the port entrance channel. The collier entering port is the HUDSON CAPE (2,524grt/1946), owned by the Hudson Steam Ship Company.

The lock gates between the Old Harbour and Victoria Dock have now been removed. The old Dock Master's Office was also demolished to make way for the construction of the new Fish Quay.

The boats  are pulled up onto Irvine's slipway, which used to be Whithy's Quay, in the Old Harbour, Hartlepool. This was the old No. 5 Graving Dock, in use at this time for mooring vessels from Hartlepool Yacht Club.
