In convoy OB-289 on a voyage from Cardiff for Halifax in ballast & with a complement of 41 Mansepool was torpedoed by German submarine U-97 (Udo Heilmann) & sank SW of the Faroe Islands on 24 February 1941. Survivors were picked up by British steamer Thomas Holt. Master Harry Raymond Clark. Two hands were lost.
