Fate

Miraflores was on a voyage from the Tyne to Bilbao with a cargo of coal and a crew of 23 when she sank after a collision with the Povena of Spain seven miles off Hastings on 15 March 1903. Both vessels were going at high speed at the time & the 2nd engineer, a greaser & an apprentice were scalded to death by a rush of steam immediately after the collision. The Povena rescued the remainder of the crew & stood by until the Miraflores sank.
