Bondowoso - Launch

The following appeared in the Northern Daily Mail on August 27th, 1919:

"Messrs. William Gray and Co. Ltd. yesterday launched the steel screw steamer Bondowoso for the Rotterdamsche Lloyd Steamship Co., Rotterdam. Her dimensions are: Length over all 413ft, breadth extreme 52ft 3ins, depth moulded 31ft, and deadweight capacity about 8,000 tons.

The vessel has a full equipment of winches and cargo ghear, electric lighting etc. and is fitted out to the owners special requirements. Triple-expansion engines are being supplied by the Central Marine Engine Works of the builders, having cylinders 27ins, 44ins, and 73ins by 48in stroke, and three boilers, 15ft 6ins in diameter and 11ft 6ins long, capable of 180lbs workin g pressure and fitted with Howden's forced draught. The engine room auxiliaries include winch condenser, feed water heater, feed and ballast pumps, and evaporator, all of the 'CMEW' type.

The vessel and machinery have been constructed under the superintendence of Mr. Archibald Walker and Mr. J.J. Wesselman on behalf of the owners.
The ceremony od christening the steamer Bondowoso was gracefully performed by Mrs. Arnold Jones, West Hartlepool."
