From Log Book Middleton St John's School
The log book, held at Durham County Record Office began in 1863 on Jun 1st when school commenced under a new code.
August 23rd 1863 a notice was recorded to say that the Government directed that all girls over 7 should learn sewing.
Rev. Haselwood of Christ Church was a regular visitor for catechism and hymns.
Dec 1863 Meeting held in National School referring to Infants' School. Rev JG Rowe decided to give it trial one more year and if it was not in a more prosperous condition he would close it.
