City of Guildford - Lives lost 1943

On a voyage from Alexandria for Tripoli with a cargo of munitions & aviation spirit & 142 persons on board City of Guildford was torpedoed by German submarine U-593 (O.L. Gerd Kelbling) & sank in 33.00N/22.50E on 27 March 1943. The master, six crew, 1 gunner & 5 army personnel were picked up by HMS Exmoor. 129 lives lost.
