Sunrise - a general history

Masters: 1885 AJ Simmonds; 1887 D Morgan; 1887-95 Alfred Judd (b. 1849 Maldon).

Bound from Cartagena for Middlesbrough with a cargo of 789 tons of mineral & a crew of 18 Sunrise was entering Portland when her steering gear was carried away & she struck on rocks at the east side of the opening of Portland Breakwater.

From Sundsvall for Brest with a cargo of wood & a crew of 17 she was in the North Sea on 17 November 1888 when a crew member, William Brown, fell overboard & drowned while engaged in jettisoning the deck cargo.
