Harold left Hartlepool on 2 November 1883 bound for Swinemunde, Germany with a cargo of 1,250 tons of coal & a crew of 18. After discharging her cargo & left Swinemunde in water ballast on 7 November bound Sandswell in the Gulf of Bothnia. On the 10 November 1883 she struck inside the Hundgrund Shoal at the SE of Bremo Island, Sweden. A tug attempted to assist but the vessel remained fast & became a total wreck. The master’s certificate was suspended for six months because he had caused the casualty by an error of judgement. No lives lost
