John Webster Kinnersley was serving on the SS Empire Newcomen when he lost his life at sea through enemy action. John ("Bebber") had been going to sea since the outbbreak of the war. He was previously employed by The South Durham Steelworks & Iron Company. He left a widow, Doris, and one child. His cause of death was recorded as "Supposed drowned". His name appears on The Tower Hill Memorial in London.
