Greig, Robert William

3rd Engineer
95, Milton Street, West Hartlepool
West Hartlepool
24/12/1894
28/2/1916

Lost on the steamship Thornaby, of West Hartlepool.

Robert William Greig was born at West Hartlepool on December 24th, 1894, to parents David Pattison and Jane Greig (nee Herron, born Berwick-on-Tweed), and baptised at Stranton on January 25th, 1895. The family were living at No.1, Mosley Street, West Hartlepool at this time, with David listed as an Engineer.

David and Jane had been married at Stranton Church on July 26th, 1890. Marriage records show David had been living in Andrews Street, and his father, William was a Joiner. Jane, whose father Robert Herron is listed as a Mariner, was living in Dundas Street. William Greig and Rhoda Morgan are listed as Witnesses.

The 1901 Census shows David and Jane living at No.95, Milton Road, West Hartlepool, with their children David G. (aged 9), Robert William (7), and Herbert (5).

David and Jane both appear to have died by the time of the 1911 Census, as this records the household now only comprising David G. (now aged 19), as an Apprentice Fitter, Robert as an Apprentice Fitter & Turner, Herbert, and Jane Herron (aged 80), David's widowed Mother-in-law.
