Lost on the steamship Mabel Baird. 

John Thomas Granger was born at West Hartlepool in 1857, to parents Benjamin Smith and Martha Granger.

The 1861 Census shows Benjamin (a Master Mariner), and Martha living in Coverdale Street, Hartlepool, with their children Phatuel (aged 12), Martha (6) and John Thomas (4), and Hannah.

In 1884, John married Margaret Jane Marshall and the 1911 Census shows Margaret (Thomas presumably away at sea), living at No.53, Granville Avenue, West Hartlepool, with children John Marshall (aged 24, Clerk for a Steamship Company)), Albert (21, Linotype Compositor), Ethel (23), and Jane Oliver (14).
