John William Truefitt was born at Scarborough in 1874, the son of the Burton and Mary J. Truefitt.
John married Maria Jenkinson (also born in Scarborough), at St. Mary's Church, Scarborough, on February 25th, 1902.
The 1911 Census shows John and Maria still living in Scarborough, with their four sons; Walter (aged 8), Jack (6), Burton (3), and Charles D. (1).
At the time of John's death, Maria Truefitt is recorded as living at No.111 Durham Street, East Hartlepool.
