The reverse of the image says that Watson's soup kitchen was behind where the now demolished Sun Inn stood on the corner of Durham St and Baltic St. The image was taken from a negative belonging to Peter Ryan a publican at The Globe in Northgate.
Although the people posing in the queue look fairly happy for the photo, the boy on the left has no footwear.
