Fate

The British steamship Melanie was torpedoed and sunk by the German submarine UC-40 (Hermann Menzel), 5 miles south-east of Whitby, on June 16th, 1918. The ship was on a voyage from Blyth to Blaye, France, with a cargo of coal. Master R.S. Tipson. 5 crew were lost.
