Fate

The British steamship Aigwen was torpedoed and sunk by the German submarine UB-62 (Bernhard Putzier), 50 miles north-west of Muckle Flugga, Shetlands, on September 18th, 1917. The ship was on a voyage from Archangel to Dieppe with a cargo of timber.

18 members of the crew were lost, and the Master,A.G. Samsom,  and a Gunner were taken prisoner aboard the U-boat.
