1906 - Devon v Durham County -County Ground Exeter (1)

What we know about this image :

A pic of the losing County XV that went down to Devon in the 1906 Final by 3 pts to 16, providing a marvellous snapshot of the Committee men who ran Rugby in the town and County during the Halcyon decade at the start of the 20th Century.

Probably taken at the Exeter ground on the day.

Among the players, N.C.Neilson,(Nathaniel Clarke)  a Whitley Bay born player, played for Sunderland, Winlaton Vulcans and Norhern in his time, his County  career which included 17 caps lasted from 1904 to 1912. Sadly, he gave his life whilst serving with the Royal Fusiliers on the Somme in 1916. Along with Harry Imrie he also founded the Chopwell & District Rugby Club that was successful on both sides of the Great War.
