A card for William H. Bell (1866- 1930) of Sunderland, Sunderland Rovers and Hartlepool Rovers. William Bell was a guest member of the Hartlepool Rovers side that played the touring Maoris XV on the Friarage Field in 1888, giving a storming tackling performance at full back. He also played for Durham, as seen on this card, on 18 occasions between 1886 and 1892 and was an England Trialist. He later served as Durham County President and RFU Representative from 1895 to 1900, before ending his days as a staunch supporter of Sunderland A.F.C. at Roker Park being Club Chairman at one stage!
