On a voyage from Greymouth for Invercargill gasworks at Bluff with a cargo of coal Pelham grounded on Howell’s Rocks off Lookout Point, Bluff, New Zealand on 9 August 1886 & was totally wrecked.

The master was found in default by attempting to enter the harbour before daylight.
